about

Recorded during most of 2013, tracks 1-6 were inspired by older Sc-fi films and discussions with my Ukrainian friend, Irina. Themes were decided upon, her vocals were recorded and I continued to refine the best tracks from my recording sessions. All tracks made with a modest hardware-only setup: TR-808, Matrix 1000, SH-101, SH-2, Monomachine, Slim Phatty and Blofeld. However to give the best flexibility, a handful of software sequencers were used to control a couple synthesizers.
These 6 tracks were mastered by the talented Shawn Hatfield at AudibleOddities in Oakland, California... using analog equipment only.

Track 7 is a collection of experiments using hardware & software synthesizers from the past 3 or 4 years. From time to time, I'll spend an evening with a chosen piece of kit and let my mind meld with the instrument... pushing boundaries, exploring textures and recording the process. *Please note: There are ultra-low frequencies within. Watch your speakers & volume.

Track 8 is a collection of tracks recorded in 2014 on three different airplanes over the course of 24 hours. Each piece was recorded live on a tablet computer, using a combination of various apps, in real-time using no overdubs. From Louisville to Chicago to Los Angeles to Auckland, I travelled into the future... missing a day completely in the process. These are the sounds during that time.

This is Volna. It's a journey into space, to other worlds, crossing parallel dimensions, through wormholes... floating freely into the unknown.
